Bobby Madden delivers unflinching verdict on 9 VAR controversies as Celtic fury and Rangers claim answered

Bobby Madden has delivered his expert view on the big VAR moments making the headlines of late including games and decisions involving Premiership sides.

It's been an explosive week in Scottish football with Brendan Rodgers accusing referee Don Robertson and VAR official John Beaton of costing his team at Hearts last weekend as part of a post-match outburst. He's since landed an SFA charge after being left reeling at the penalty awarded against Tomoki Iwata for a handball following review and the same with the red card handed out to Yang.

The VAR technology has come under-fire with former top flight whistler Madden insisting it HAS got a number of major decisions 'completely wrong' as he took to the airwaves on BBC Sportsound to provide his opinion. Speaking about VAR and summing it up overall, he said: "In particular in the last couple of weeks its not been going very well. I think no one can say that VAR has had a positive impact in the game in Scotland. There are obviously a lot of high profile decisions and yes some may split opinion but some for me are completely wrong and with VAR that shouldn't be the case

"I watched the game live. There was talk of a potential foul that would have been a penalty kick and obviously the handball which was identified. What I would say is it would be highly challenging for any match official to identify that contact live. But then it is the responsibility of VAR to identify that contact.

"I am in one Whatsapp group now with a couple of ex and current referees. We talk about decisions and the only reason I can suggest for that not being awarded was the reason that was then shared with the BBC. They didn't even check for the handball and that is not acceptable. It is not acceptable."
