Joey Barton outburst explained after sexist posts as shock jock rant decoded

Joey Barton has never been afraid to make his feelings known - both on and off the football pitch.

And the controversial former Rangers and Manchester City midfielder has come under-fire once again after he shared a series of misogynistic posts on his social media accounts. It comes hours after Barton revealed he is starting his very own podcast series in the New Year titled: The Edge Podcast. He plans to examine the art, science and philosophy of winning in sport, politics and life during his conversations with his guests.

But the Scouser has caused a storm after claiming women shouldn't be given a media platform to comment on men's football. Eni Aluko, Gabby Logan, Siobhan Chamberlain, and Robyn Cowen were among the experienced broadcasters contributing to Amazon Prime's midweek coverage of the English Premier League. Barton took to X, formerly Twitter, in an astonishing set of posts hitting out at their roles. The first said: "Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game. Come on. Let’s be serious. It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently. The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see. I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena #namaste."

Just seven minutes later, he then added: "Any man who listens to women commentary or co-comms needs their heads testing… #sticktoyourowngame." The England cap didn't back down with his brutal attack on women's football. After sleeping on his comments, he continued to fire sexist blows. "Stand by everything I’ve said on Women commenting and co-comms on the Men’s football," Barton reiterated.
