Asmir Begovic in direct Celtic transfer response as keeper put on the spot over Parkhead move

Asmir Begovic has directly responded to talk linking him with a summer move to Celtic.

The 36-year-old - who has the likes of Chelsea, AC Milan, Everton, Portsmouth and Stoke City on his CV - is currently considering his options after playing last season in the English Championship at QPR. They are continuing talks over a potential extended stay but the Bosnian has not shut the door on any opportunities with no decisions yet made.

Brendan Rodgers is in the market for a new No1 after Joe Hart's retirement with a host of names continually linked with the Scottish champions. Begovic is one of the names that has cropped up with talkSPORT Drive host Andy Goldstein directly asking him about his plans for next season and mentioning his links to Celtic. He said: “I am currently looking at options, talking to obviously QPR and see what happens there, see what happens in the next few weeks, it is still pretty early in the transfer window. Nothing has been decided yet. I am keeping myself fit. I really enjoyed last year, the fact that I played so many games.

“In the second half of the season, for us, the team became together really well. Let’s see if we can keep this group of players together, have another run at it next year, see what else is out there and take it from there.”

Asked if he would prefer to stay south or the border or play north next term, Begovic continued: “I am not going to answer all those questions. Let’s see what happens. I will listen to different people and obviously see how the market shapes up and take it from there and decide what’s best for me and my family.”

Goldstein then joked: "Just cough if it is down south." Begovic replied: "I will smile instead."
