Joao Cancelo display in Liverpool FC defeat solidifies his strongest role for Man City

Oh, how much can change in just a week.

Last Tuesday Manchester City were still riding high on an excellent seven days in which they scored 15 goals on their way to destroying Manchester United, FC Copenhagen and Southampton. They were gearing up to face the Danes once again and book their place in the Champions League knockout stages before travelling to Anfield to stretch the gap between themselves and Liverpool even further.

Pep Guardiola's side did secure qualification from the group but not as they had planned as they could only draw 0-0 with a spirited Copenhagen after being reduced to 10 men. Not the expected win but job done non the less under challenging circumstances. No need to worry. Yet the following day Liverpool stuck seven past (an admittedly dreadful) Rangers in a galvanising display and all of a sudden facing the 11th-placed Premier League team didn't look quite as appealing as it once did.

Last Tuesday Joao Cancelo was coming off the back of a Player of the Match performance against Southampton. The Portuguese opened the scoring with a fine solo goal we're more used to a certain Mohamed Salah bagging and also notched an assist. A week later he is coming off the back of his worst match in a blue shirt in quite some time. How things can change.

It was the defender's moment of misjudgement as he went to challenge Salah that defined the game.
