Joan Jordan to Rangers transfer silence broken as Sevilla misfit 'cuts holiday short'

Sevilla sports director Victor Orta has declared it would be "better" for Joan Jordan to leave the club amid interest from Rangers.

The two-time Europa League winner has been told he is surplus to requirements by the La Liga side - with Philippe Clement and Ibrox director of football recruitment Nils Koppen said to be among the admirers eyeing a deal for the 30-year-old this summer. Reports suggest that an offer to take the midfielder on loan and pick up 30 per cent of his wages has been turned down by Sevilla.

Marca report that the club are "waiting for offers" that pick up at least 50 per cent of the player's salary if they are to allow Jordan to leave on loan next season. It is noted that the misfit has "cut short his holiday' to return to training early in a bid to reclaim a place in the plans of boss García Pimienta for the new season. However, Orta has made it clear that a departure would be the best path for the player.

Speaking to ABC about the potential departures of Jordan and his teammate Adnan Januzaj, Orta said: "They have been told that they are not part of the project. We respect their contracts, but it is better for them to choose other options."

Pressed on Jordan amid links with Rangers, he added: "The club informed Jordan's representatives of its intention, we thought that his cycle had ended. It has been very clear to him.

"They have known this since... I think before Barca (The final game of the La Liga season). His representative had a meeting with the club and it was clearly stated to him."
