Cyriel Dessers has RANGERS fans trolling their title hopes as Hotline helps Philippe Clement book removal van

Cyriel Dessers says he looks round the Ibrox dressing room and sees plenty of reason to be confident in Rangers’ trophy prospects this season. But those looking on from the outside appear to have a vastly different perspective going by the Hotline callers.

Drew Ferguson, Oban, said: “As a Rangers fan I wholeheartedly disagree with the limited Mr Dessers that Rangers can win the league as this team is going backwards with respect to the quality of the playing squad. Unless significant upgrades are introduced BEFORE the opening game of the new season at Tynecastle, the title race and our Champions League hopes will be over by the end of August.”

That view was shared by punters whose loyalties lie on the opposite side of Glasgow. Eddie Easson, Fife, said: “The season is just about to start and again all the hot air is coming from Ibrox. Celtic will go about their business as usual. One thing for certain if Rangers drop points at either Tynecastle or Celtic Park, Monsieur Clement will be booking the removal van.”

Edward Fraser added: “With the new season just a few days away and the transfer window open for another month, I believe patience is required to see what business both Celtic and Rangers are able to do before we see who will go into the season as favourites. But with all the problems Rangers have it's looking more and more like a possible Treble coming Celtic’s way, even with Dessers claiming Rangers can win the league with the squad they have. I'll have whatever he's drinking.”
