Jim Goodwin identifies what is KILLING Dundee United as boo boys seize on another title slip up

Relieved Jim Goodwin labelled Louis Moult’s equaliser “world class” but was left lamenting table-topping Dundee United’s defensive display at the opposite end of the park.

Wallace Duffy gave Inverness a lead at Tannadice, after poor defending from Liam Grimshaw, but it took a wonder strike from Moult, from almost the halfway line to rescue a point after boos rained down at half time. It means Dundee United go into next week’s table-topping clash with Raith Rovers a point ahead, although their rivals have a game-in-hand.

Goodwin said: “It’s a game that we should have won and that we expect to win. We should have taken three points – but we don’t half make life difficult for ourselves sometimes, with the goals we’ve conceded in the last eight or nine games. Only on a couple of occasions in the last 10 or 11 games have we managed to get ourselves that first goal and on both of those occasions we’ve gone on to win and win comfortably, but inconsistencies are killing us.

“I always fancied that we would score a goal, albeit not a world class goal like the one Moult managed to pull out the hat. It was a brilliant goal from Moulty and shows how important he is to us.”

Kevin Holt limped off with a knee injury and it doesn’t look good. Goodwin warned: “It doesn’t look great with Kev and his knee, we’ll have to wait on the scan results. But the initial thoughts are it doesn’t look good, there’s a bit of slackness in his knee.”

Meanwhile, Duncan Ferguson claimed Dundee United’s wonder strike shouldn’t have stood because Cammy Kerr was fouled in the build-up. Caley Thistle went ahead through Wallace Duffy but a long-range effort from Louis Moult ensured the points were shared in the 1-1 Tannadice draw.
