Jet2 and Ryanair warn of ‘disruption to flights’ as UK battered by 70mph winds

Jet2 and Ryanair have warned passengers of disruption to flights to and from the UK today as the country is battered by strong winds and heavy rain.

It comes as a yellow weather warning for wind is in force for large parts of the UK, including the North West, South West, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland until 9pm tonight. The Met Office predicts gusts of up to 70 mph in some coastal and hilly areas, while showers, hail and thunders are also forecast.

Ryanair has told passengers that there could be “potential disruption” to and from the UK on Sunday December 22. The airline said that affected passengers would be notified and passengers should check the app for the latest updates on their flight.

Jet2 has also issued an update to passengers. In a statement on their website, Jet2 said: “Our operations team continue to monitor the UK forecast to ensure we have the most up to date information for all Jet2.com departing and arriving customers on Sunday 22nd December 2024 & Monday 23rd December 2024.

“The Met Office has warned that the stormy conditions are due to continue, at times, in parts of the UK for the coming days. If you are travelling with Jet2.com we plan to operate our flights as close to schedule as possible, however, there may be some disruption should the weather deteriorate.”

The airline said that all customers should check in as normal, but those whose flights are disrupted will be contacted. Jet2 did warn that even if flights do go ahead, there could be a “longer than normal wait either in the terminal or onboard the aircraft to depart.”
