Jeremie Frimpong release clause 'revealed' as Celtic learn exactly how much transfer windfall they can bank

Jeremie Frimpong could land Celtic a cool €6million next summer with the right back expected to leave Leverkusen.

That's because the Hoops will be entitled to 30 per cent of the profit the Bundesliga outfit could land if any top clubs activate his €40million release clause. Sky Sports Germany claim that Leverkusen expect the 22-year-old to depart at the end of this season. Frimpong has been linked with the likes of Man United in the past and is attracting interest from across Europe.

The time is approaching for his current club to cash in, and that would be good news for Celtic, who signed Frimpong from Manchester City for just £350k in 2019. They sold him on to Germany for £11.5m in January 2021. Frimpong only signed an extension at Leverkusen last month, penning a deal until 2028. But it seems that was more about the club ensuring a summer payday, which would boost Brendan Rodgers' transfer budget nicely as a result.

Journalist Florian Plettenburg posted: “News Jeremie Frimpong: Leverkusen expect him to leave the club in 2024. The 22 y/o is also very keen on a transfer.

“He has a release clause of €40m in the summer! Incredible season again. Best Bundesliga right winger/right-back at the moment: 6 goals and 7 assists in 17 matches yet.”
