Neil McCann insists Rangers red card was wrong as pundit uses Celtic example to show he's not wearing blue tinted specs

Neil McCann insists Jose Cifuentes shouldn't have seen red after a chaotic win for Rangers over Dundee.

The first half at Ibrox was dominated by calls from Kevin Clancy and VAR reviews. James Tavernier slotted away a penalty following Cyriel Dessers' leveller and Amadou Bakayoko's Dundee opener, after a video monitor review reached the verdict that Aaron Donnelly had pulled too much of Abdallah Sima's shirt. The Brighton loanee made it 3-1 soon after and Todd Cantwell thought he had the fourth after a mazy run, but Clancy had already blown for a foul by Dessers on Malachi Boateng, which boss Philippe Clement was furious about.

Then Cifuentes was sent off after a challenge on Bakayoko was upgraded from yellow to red. This irked McCann, but he is adamant his Ibrox past has no bearing on the decision, as he cited a similar Greg Taylor incident in a recent Celtic clash as proof. He said: "I know he (Dundee manager Tony Docherty) is upset with the penalty. think it is the correct decision. It is soft.

"This one with Cifuentes, I know he catches him and it is late. For me it is a yellow card. In case anybody starts shouting 'it's because he's ex-Rangers', it's not. I am the same with Greg Taylor at Celtic, I am the same with Harry Paton (at Motherwell) last week. I am the same there, I think a yellow if a card. I don't think there is a lot of force going through it and he tries to pull his leg back."

Fellow pundit James McFadden wasn't so sure. He added: "It's a red card for me. I think there is a stamp, it's not forceful, he has overextended because he has lost the ball."
