Jay Slater's mum suffered unimaginable 'pain and trauma' - but one thing made it even worse

Jay Slater's heartbroken mum Debbie has opened up about the 'pain and trauma' she has suffered after her missing son's body was found in a ravine in Tenerife.

Four weeks after he had been reported missing on the Spanish island, the body of the 19-year-old was tragically uncovered by search teams.

His mum Debbie Duncan said her family’s 'hearts are broken' after it was confirmed that the human remains belonged to her son following the major search.

A charity has since spoken of the extra 'pain and trauma' heaped onto Jay's mum, caused by callous amateur sleuths online during the search for the teenager.

The apprentice bricklayer had travelled to an Airbnb with two men after a festival before reportedly missing a bus and embarking on an 11-hour walk back to his apartment the following day.

After he was reported as missing, his disappearance quickly caught the eyes of the world - bringing with it swathes of 'armchair detectives' and social media trolls sharing their own theories online.

Just days after he vanished, and speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Debbie warned of the 'noise' surrounding her son's disappearance and the mass speculation was becoming hindrance to police and search teams working to find him.

But as the days passed and became weeks, social media groups with over half a million members became a wall of various theories, TikTok accounts posted their own explanations as to what had happened, as the internet became awash conspiracies.
