Fulham 3-0 Millwall: What happened? Who stood out? What are the fans saying?

Fulham beat London rivals Millwall 3-0 at Craven Cottage last night to extend the gap at the top of the Championship to eight points. 

With Blackburn Rovers and Bournemouth both playing tonight, the emphasis was on Marco Silva’s side to prove that the weekend’s 4-1 FA Cup defeat to Manchester City had not dented their confidence and they managed to do just that – securing a fifth league win in their last six league games.

Gary Rowett’s side will have known that nothing but their best would be able to earn them points at Craven Cottage and the Lions made a strong start, with crosses from Oli Burke and Mason Bennett on either flank causing issues.

But they could not capitalise and just before the half-hour mark Aleksandar Mitrovic put the hosts ahead with his 29th Championship goal of the season when he swept Neco Williams’ low cross into the net from 10 yards out.

Millwall were able to keep things tight and go into halftime only 1-0 down but their resolve lasted just five minutes after the break with Mitrovic bagging his second.

The ball pinballed around the Lions’ box and the Serbian was fastest to react after Bart Bialkowski had got down well to save Fabio Carvalho’s shot.

But the visitors did not lie down and the introduction of Jed Wallace after 57 minutes offered them fresh hope.

Another surging run from Burke created a chance for Wallace but his effort was well saved by Marek Rodak and then Bennett put the follow-up wide of the post.

The Fulham goalkeeper was kept busy as the half wore on and denied Benik Afobe from close range not long after.
