Jamie McGrath expects Aberdeen suffering at Celtic but he takes Euro heroics mindset to Parkhead front door

Jamie McGrath reckons Aberdeen will need to put on another top European-style performance and suffer but that pain could help turn it into their Celtic Park gain.

Aberdeen come back from a gutsy draw away to PAOK and will now need to regroup and go again when they travel to take on Brendan Rodgers’ table-topper tomorrow afternoon. McGrath, who helped claim the point in Greece with a wonder free kick, knows it will take another gutsy back-to-walls display if Barry Robson’s side are to take anything from their trip to Parkhead.

The Republic of Ireland star admitted: “It is going to be the same as Thursday. We might need to suffer a bit without the ball. We can do that and we are dangerous on the counter-attack. You saw Duk, he was brilliant in Greece. He hasn’t played in a few weeks but he was excellent.

“No matter who we play against we will always get chances. We trust ourselves to keep a clean sheet. I know we conceded two against PAOK but those boys put their bodies on the line. We have to go in again Celtic with the same mind set.”

McGrath has netted five goals this season and believes he can be shooting at his 17 goal best haul that he claimed at St Mirren during 2020-21 season.

He said: “That season at St Mirren I scored 17. It would be nice to match that. It is the most possession-based team I have played in so far, in terms of dominating the opposition team. St Mirren and Dundee United last season we were less on the attack. It is nice to be part of a team that is on the front foot for the majority of the game. I am playing with some brilliant players and it is a good team to be part of.”
