Jamie McGrath a Hibs transfer target as Lee Johnson eyes move for former Dundee United winger

Hibs are considering a summer move for Jamie McGrath.

The Republic of Ireland international caught Lee Johnson’s eye while on loan at Dundee United. The 26-year-old has since returned to Wigan Athletic. He is in the final year of his contract but The Latics have just been relegated to League One. There had been financial issues at the club and late payment of wages but those were resolved by Wednesday's takeover.

Johnson has a few midfield options with McGrath amongst them. Dundee United would be keen to get McGrath back but financially is likely to be out of their reach. The Irishman first made his name in Scotland at St Mirren under former boss Jim Goodwin. Hibs are also close to confirming the return of Will Fish from Manchester United for next season. The club have allowed Croatian left-back Marijan Cabraja to return to his homeland with HNK Rijeka.

The terms of the transfer are undisclosed, although Hibs have secured a sell-on clause. Johnson said: “We’d like to thank Marijan for all his hard work and dedication.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen are also looking to re-sign captain Graeme Shinnie from Wigan. On loan at Pittodrie last season, Shinnie also has a year left on his contract but can leave The Latics.
