When the first Hearts vs Hibs clash is as 2023/24 Premiership fixtures are released

It's fair to say the last Edinburgh derby did not end of good terms.

Hearts secured a point on the final day of the least despite playing over an hour with ten men, which saw them finish above Hibs and claim fourth spot in the Premiership. That saw them enter the Europa Conference League at the third qualifying round, with their rivals having to settle for a slot in the second, which will see them face either Vikingur or Inter Club D'Escaldes.

But the real action came after the final whistle. Lee Johnson aimed a dig at Steven Naismith's ribs after the pair shook hands, which did not go down well with the Hearts bench. Both sets of staff, subs and unstripped players clashed on the touchline, while it spilled over onto the park as well. The noisy neighbourly dispute earned both capital clubs a citation from the Scottish FA and punishments were dished out on Thursday.

Hearts were fined £6,000 and Hibs £6,400. The extra £400 was for breaching the same disciplinary rule on a previous occasion last season. Rocky Bushiri's red card in the tunnel earned him a tw-game ban and while Lee Johnson was also dismissed behind the scenes, it's unclear how many games he will be in the stand for, if any.

They won't have too long to wait for the rematch, but there is a bit of a cooling off period. The Hibees head back to Tynecastle on Saturday, October 7, although as ever, that is subject to change should Sky decide they want to show this particular fixture again after swerving the last three.

They will be showing the Christmas clash between the pair. The jambos are at Easter Road on Wednesday, December 27 for an 8pm kick-off. Providing there isn't the now almost annual Scottish Cup meeting, the third instalment is another midweek affair
