Jamie Carragher makes Harry Kane Manchester United prediction after Tottenham embarrassment

Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United will be unsuccessful in their transfer pursuit of Harry Kane, predicting that the striker will stay at Tottenham.

The alarm bells went off early in the Newcastle away end on Sunday as Spurs shipped five goals in just 21 minutes against the Magpies. The match ultimately ended in a 6-1 defeat with Kane getting the consolation.

The England captain now sits on 26 goals for the season across all competitions. With Tottenham in the perilous situation of missing out on Champions League football, Kane’s future is being questioned even more intensely.

The striker turns 30 in the summer and is yet to lift a trophy in his career. Erik ten Hag has circled him as his top summer target with League Cup winners and FA Cup finalists United desperate for a clinical centre-forward.

But Carragher still believes Kane - his club and country’s all-time top scorer - will stay at Tottenham with Daniel Levy set to be a tough negotiator this summer. The former Liverpool man thinks Kane would want to stay in the Premier League to try and chase down Alan Shearer’s 260-goal record.

Writing on Twitter, Carragher predicted: “Levy will turn down an offer from MU, who will then have to sign another striker this summer.

“Then every top team in the PL has a striker, Kane wants the PL goal record so he won’t go abroad for free the next summer. I think he signs for Spurs!”

Many are casting this summer as the final transfer crossroads for Kane. Should he stay at Spurs and they do not qualify for the Champions League, he will be at least 31 by the time he plays in the competition again.
