Jamie Carragher in Steven Gerrard Saudi 'hypocrisy' response as Jota Celtic exit mirror image part of 'big problem'
Jamie Carragher insists he's not a hypocrite after being accused of going quiet on his views about Saudi Arabia when Steven Gerrard moved to the Middle East.
The Liverpool icon watched as his former team mate sealed a money-spinning move to Al-Ettifaq this month, leaving behind his two spells in the dugout with Aston Villa and Rangers for the lucrative Saudi Pro League. Gerrard moved to suggest he had a "lot in common" with his new club as he met the media, and ex-England colleague Rio Ferdinand called out the Sky Sports mouthpiece for being 'silent' over Gerrard's move after previously accusing the Middle Eastern league of 'sportswashing'.
Carragher launched a blast on the ever-growing division after the likes of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, notwithstanding Celtic's Jota, made the move to clubs with high wage packets and big transfer fees. He called on the Premier League and FIFA to take action, but after the former Manchester United defender accused him of being 'silent', a war of words ensued on social media.
Now the pundit has defended himself again with the news that Anfield hero Jordan Henderson is weighing up a move to join Gerrard in Saudi, by saying he was never critical of individuals for wanting to take the money and run.
He said on Twitter when asked why he's not talking about Saudi: "Because after I’ve stated it’s Sports washing and I don’t want what has happened to Golf to happen to football there’s not much more to say right now!"
