Jamie Carragher and Ally McCoist disagree as Man City prediction made before Liverpool clash

Football pundits Jamie Carragher and Ally McCoist have clashed over predictions for the crucial upcoming match at Anfield as Liverpool aim to disrupt Manchester City's title defence.

With a win on Sunday, Arne Slot's side would establish an 11-point lead over Pep Guardiola’s team. City, who are reeling from an unsettling slump that includes failing to clinch a victory in their last six matches across all competitions, also face recovering from three consecutive defeats in the Premier League. Their most recent 4-0 loss at Tottenham has been marked as a particularly low point.

Contrastingly, Liverpool's form has been consistently strong throughout the season with only one stumble – a 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest in September. A triumph this weekend could critically dent City’s aspirations of achieving an unprecedented fifth straight top-flight crown.

And former Liverpool defender Carragher, within his Telegraph column, conveyed a cautious yet telling forecast regarding City’s chances should they fall to Liverpool.

"With some hesitation, I will make a prediction which - because of the Guardiola factor - may come back to haunt me," he said. "If City lose to Liverpool, their title defence is over before Christmas.

"An 11-point gap would be too much. That is not necessarily because Liverpool would stretch away to win the Premier League. Arsenal and Chelsea have a real chance this season, too.
