Jamie Carragher admits that Liverpool FC are 'a million miles' away from Man City

Jamie Carragher has admitted that Liverpool are 'a million miles' away from Manchester City after losing to rivals Manchester United on Monday night.

City's perfect start to the season came to an end at St James' Park on Sunday during a thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle. The result saw Pep Guardiola's side drop points for the first time this season, although they did show resilience to fight back from 3-1 down.

Dropping points is never a good thing in football, especially when your fierce rivals win the following day. However, City fans will be glad that United beat an out-of-form Liverpool side on Monday night as it widened the gap between Jurgen Klopp's side and theirs.

Liverpool pushed City to the final day of the season during the last Premier League campaign. The Blues sealed the title with a dramatic comeback against Aston Villa as only one point separated the two sides.

However, a gap has already appeared between the two title contenders and Carragher thinks that his former side need to focus on other clubs around them - not City.

Carragher told Sky Sports: "At this stage it feels big. I don't think they can be thinking about City, Liverpool need to get themselves back on track.

“They have had a really poor start. They set such high standards but they are a million miles off them right now. They have to fix it quickly."

The gap between the two sides is already five points, and although only thee games have been played, Liverpool are yet to win a match this season. The two teams do not face each other in the league until October and Jurgen Klopp's side will undoubtedly have to find a way to turn their form
