James Tavernier will be Rangers legend and learning off him will only better me says Adam Devine

Adam Devine insists James Tavernier will go down as a Rangers legend – as well as his major inspiration.

The Ibrox youngster kicked off his loan spell at Motherwell in style with his first senior goal in Wednesday’s wild 3-3 draw at Aberdeen. Devine faces a tough task catching up with the record-breaking Rangers – who is in the top 10 scoring defenders of all time an incredible 127 career goals. The youngster has been thrilled to learn from the master and he’s also determined to use his spell at Fir Park to progress.

Devine said: “Learning off him every day was only going to better me. As you can see from his numbers and the way he gets forward and defends, he’s an amazing player. He’ll be a legend at Rangers. It’s been great to learn off him and I take small parts from his game and try to add them into mine to make myself better. A lot of it nowadays is on stats so you need to provide going forward in terms of goals and assists, try to help the team the best way you can. I was obviously delighted with the goal, it came at a good time.

“First start for Motherwell and it was good to get off the mark with the goal. That’s what you want to do - I came out on loan to get game time and show people what I can do. I’ve not played in a long time so I’m still finding my feet. I’m getting close to where I want to be but there’s still a lot of improvement.”

Devine jumped at the chance to head to Well for the rest of the season after struggling for chances at Ibrox. The 20-year-old right back was given a taste under former boss Michael Beale last year – as a makeshift left back while Borna Barisic was at the World Cup. But it’s been hard going since with limited game time for youngsters.
