Jack Butland laughs off Rangers fan spat as he names one thing there was 'no need' for from raging punter

Goalkeeper Jack Butland has brushed off a row with an irked Rangers fan earlier in the campaign - insisting the punter is happy now.

The spat came in the wake of the 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen that saw Michael Beale lose his job - while Rangers fell seven points behind Celtic after just seven games of the season. Butland was willing to front up to the fan and listen to what he had to say as the angry supporter pointed to the Champions League money that was missed out on as well as defeats to Kilmarnock and Celtic early in the campaign.

Since then, the Light Blues have flipped the script and now hold the advantage in the Scottish Premiership title race after surging to the summit of the table under Philippe Clement. Looking back on the flashpoint outside of Ibrox, the Rangers number one felt there was no need for camera phones - which led to the clip circling on social media - but is always happy to front up to fans.

Asked about the clip on BBC, Butland said: "Regardless of win, lose or draw I always stop and sign stuff for the kids and stuff like that afterwards. There just happened to be a few fans that wanted a little bit more contact - which is fine.

"Happy to speak to them, always. But sometimes there is no need for a camera phones and stuff like that. We had a good chat."

He was then pressed on if he thought the fan may have changed his tune if he met him now with Rangers at the top of the table. Butland laughed: "I have bumped into him a few times since. He's happy now.

"He has got a lot more to be happy about which is always the target and always the aim. One way or another we have got somewhere near where we need to be and want to be at least."
