Ivan Toney signs, Zirkzee role - Dream Man United attack with surprise £50m deadline signing

Manchester United have already improved their attack this summer with the signing of Joshua Zirkzee earlier in the transfer window. However, the injury to Rasmus Hojlund has left speculation of another striker joining continuing to rumble.

Hojlund picked up the injury in the pre-season defeat to Arsenal and has left Erik ten Hag with just one natural centre-forward until after the September international break.

In Friday's season opener with Fulham, Ten Hag started Bruno Fernandes as a false 9 before introducing Zirkee off the bench in the second half. The summer signing went on to score the game's winner for a dream start to life in England on his debut.

However, links to Ivan Toney continue to persist amid uncertainty over his Brentford future. For some time now, the England international has seemed certain to leave the Gtech Community Stadium but with less than two weeks of the transfer window remaining, a big-money move has not been sealed.

On Sunday, Toney was left out of Brentford's squad for their 2024/25 Premier League season opener due to transfer interest. "There’s a lot of things going on with Ivan, there’s some transfer interest. Because of all that, we decided not to involve him in the squad," his manager Thomas Frank told Sky Sports of his decision to leave out the England international for Sunday's match against Crystal Palace.
