ITV reality concept almost collapsed as host admits 'we nearly didn't have a show'

Love Island's Olivia Attwood has revealed that her new reality show, Bad Boyfriends, almost didn't happen as all eight stars threatened to quit. The ITV star is set to host the new programme which tricks eight unsuspecting men into thinking they're going on a lads' holiday, only to find their girlfriends waiting for them with the intention of making them clean up their act.

Olivia aims to transform these wayward individuals into fully committed partners. However, when she unveiled the truth to the guys, they were given a "24 hour cooling off period" to reconsider their participation.

"We could have woken up the next morning and not had a show," Olivia confessed, after having worked on it for a year. Viewers can anticipate "tough love" and plenty of dramatic moments on the show.

Olivia also confirmed that the real format of the show isn't even the biggest surprise the boys will face.

Appearing on ITV's This Morning, Olivia spoke to hosts Craig Doyle and Sian Welby about the programme. Craig was quick to ask how the boys reacted to the revelation, reports the Mirror.

Olivia admitted: "No-one left. We had a full eight stayed I know, unbelievable. We had very mixed reactions. Some were very explosive out the gate, some of them it bubbled on for a few days, and some took it quite well."

"The show that is their big first shock. But there are shocks that follow that they took worse than the girlfriends being there and the show being fake."

Olivia shared her concerns about the show's continuity, saying: "They're here to face it. You know what it's like you have to give people a cooling off period. You can't make anyone stay. So it was a real thing of, 'Are they genuinely going to re-consent to this new show?'"
