ITV Emmerdale fans puzzled by timing in latest episode amid Leyla and Liam scenes

Emmerdale fans were left distracted during the latest trip to the village. The ITV soap returned to screens on Monday night (June 20) for the first episode of the week.

Among the storylines to greet viewers was Liam and Leyla Cavanagh who were celebrating their first wedding anniversary. It comes after a very bumpy time for the pair - to say the least - after Liam's daughter, Leanna, was killed before her 18th birthday party by nurse Meena Jutla.

And then Leyla too was almost killed by the village's serial killer as she went to look for newlyweds Billy and Dawn Fletcher after they were kidnapped by Meena shortly after exchanging vows.

While local GP Liam was keen to celebrate the pair making it through their first year of marriage, Leyla, who viewers know is battling a secret cocaine addiction, didn't seem too interested, Liverpool Echo reports. Back at home, Liam excitedly read out parts of his wife's interview with Take A Vow magazine and thought they should go out for a double celebration.

"Why don't we go to that uber-hip cocktail place you and Suzy are always talking about," Liam suggested much to Leyla's hidden horror as she replied: "I don't think we're always talking about it". She later confided in Suzy, who was part of Leyla's drug-taking, that she didn't want to go in case someone recognised her and blew her secret to Liam.

The wedding planner was then seen faking being drunk in order to get out of going into town, despite the taxi being outside their home ready to whisk them off.
