ITV Emmerdale's Cain Dingle star Jeff Hordley says he's 'so upset' to lose co-star as he reveals 'back-up' career

Emmerdale star Jeff Hordley has shared his personal upset at one of his co-star's leaving the cast. The actor, who is famed for playing Cain Dingle on the ITV soap, chatted to Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled show about his current storyline.

Soap fans have watched the stalwart character unable to forgive his mum, Faith Dingle, for abandoning him and sister Chas as children, leaving them with their alcoholic father, Shadrach. In shocking scenes he wished her dead while unaware that her cancer had returned and that it was terminal.

The truth has since come out in recent weeks with a distraught Chas doing everything she can to help her mum as she nears the end of her life. Cain, however, is still continuing his cruel stance and has been unwilling to help his sister with the load of caring for Faith or paying much of an interest in her or her health at all.

But in upcoming scenes, Emmerdale fans will see Cain and Chas, played by Lucy Pargeter reflect on their childhood in light of the tragic news their mother's cancer has returned. With Chas struggling to accept what’s happening, the siblings attempt to come to terms with what the future may hold.

Faith, played by Sally Dexter, is told that her chemotherapy isn’t working and she bravely makes the decision to stop any further treatment. Her devastating diagnosis continues to impact the lives of her children as they navigate this heartbreaking turn of events. While unable to comprehend his apparent indifference to Faith’s decision to end her treatment, Chas is sure Cain will have regrets if he doesn’t reach out to their mum, and soon a night of soul-searching ensues.
