'It is too late' - Jamie Carragher claims Harry Maguire cannot save his Manchester United career

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has claimed that Manchester United captain Harry Maguire cannot turn his career around at Old Trafford.

Maguire had a game to forget at Wembley on Monday night. England played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Germany in the UEFA Nations League that saw all six goals scored inside the final 40 minutes of the match.

The United defender made the headlines for all the wrong reasons, as he was at fault for Germany's opening goal. Maguire not only gave the ball away in the build-up, but then committed a foul on Jamal Musiala inside England's box to concede a penalty, which Ilkay Gundogan calmly dispatched past Nick Pope.

Chelsea's Kai Havertz added a second goal in the 67th minute with a sumptuous curling finish. Luke Shaw went on to lead the fightback with a goal of his own, before Mason Mount and Harry Kane made it 3-2 to England with just seven minutes left of normal time.

Havertz, though, would snatch a point for the visitors in the 87th minute after a mistake from Pope saw the Newcastle goalkeeper spill the ball and allow the midfielder to tap in from close range. However, much of the focus after the game was on another disappointing night for Maguire, who could not use the international break to get out of his poor run of form at United.

Carragher has now had his say on not only Maguire's performance, but the crossroads that the defender has come to in his career. The former Liverpool player discussed his own lows as a footballer, and how he would take no prisoners in training with a particular rage when he went through similar phases to the United captain.
