Erik ten Hag has three unanswered questions to answer about his Manchester United line up

Erik ten Hag is facing a selection headache at Manchester United.

United are approaching a crucial spell of three fixtures in the space of a week, as Ten Hag's squad depth is set to be tested to the extreme. United face Newcastle on Sunday, a Wednesday night match against Tottenham and finally a clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon to round off the week.

The Premier League's fixture schedule is relentless, something that Ten Hag was all too aware of when he first joined the club. The £225million that United spent this summer saw six new additions arrive under the Dutchman, as Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Antony and Martin Dubravka all made the move to Old Trafford.

Four of the six new signings have already cemented themselves in Ten Hag's starting XI (Malacia, Eriksen, Martinez and Antony), with Casemiro now looking set to join them. Dubravka is still yet to feature for United, with Ten Hag choosing to name relatively strong line-ups in their Europa League clashes so far — a competition for which many thought David de Gea may be rested.

It is Ten Hag's lack of serious rotation that now potentially presents him with three problems heading into the busy period of fixtures, as he looks to work out his favoured starting line-up.

Stick or twist with Luke Shaw?

After being substituted at half-time in successive games for United, Ten Hag opted to drop Malacia for Shaw during the club's 2-1 win over Everton.
