'It hurt' - Daley Blind reveals how Manchester United players learned of Louis van Gaal sacking

Daley Blind has revealed Manchester United's players began to realise that Louis van Gaal was set to be sacked as the club's manager during a party after winning the FA Cup in 2016.

Van Gaal spent two just seasons in charge at Old Trafford and he ended the 2015/16 campaign by winning the first trophy of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era when defeating Crystal Palace 2-1 at Wembley in England's oldest cup competition.

That final went to extra time and Jesse Lingard scored the winning goal, but despite winning a trophy, Van Gaal was sacked two days later and the Dutchman said he was 'very disappointed' to be relieved of his duties.

Blind played the entire 120 minutes on that afternoon at Wembley and in a new interview with club media, he admitted the players knew there was 'something going on' because Van Gaal was subdued when the team celebrated.

The versatile Blind, speaking to United's in-house media, confirmed the players then began to realise Van Gaal was going to be sacked as United's boss during the victory party, which was held on the night of the FA Cup win.

Blind admitted it was difficult for him, as he had a great relationship with Van Gaal, who signed him from Ajax for £14million.

"I knew he [Van Gaal] was already for me from the national team and that didn't change," Blind said. "I know Louis van Gaal, he is who he is and what you see is what you get, he's really honest with you and with what he wants from you.

"For some players, it can be really hard and sometimes in a negative way, but he tries always to say it, to try to make you better and it's not criticising the person, but it's about trying to make the team play better.
