Ireland to face Philippines as part of nine-day Turkish training camp
The Republic of Ireland will play the Philippines in a friendly as part of a nine-day Turkish training camp as they ramp up preparations for their crucial World Cup qualifier against Georgia.
Vera Pauw's side have three games remaining in their campaign; if they win their next two they will earn a place in the play-offs.
Ireland are third in Group A, two points behind Finland but with a game in hand. If they beat Georgia in Gori on 27 June and then turn over the Finns at Tallaght Stadium on 1 September, they will seal second.
The Ireland team travel to Slovakia for their final match on 6 September.
Pauw will will name her panel on 15 June prior to departure for Antalya, Turkey. They'll take on the Philippines on Sunday, 19 June.
Ireland were buoyed by a terrific 1-1 draw against the world number two-ranked Sweden back in April. That performance and result injected more confidence into the team as they look to make history by reaching a major tournament for the first time.
Ireland annihilated Georgia 11-0 in Tallaght last November and will be huge favourites to notch another win against the group's bottom side, but there'll be wary of complacency too.
"The preparation that we're going to have, we're going to make sure everyone is up to standard, up to fitness," veteran defender Louise Quinn said earlier this month.
"If you slip up (in Georgia), which has happened in the last campaigns, it can be detrimental to the qualification process. It has happened before, so for us, as soon as June has come around we will be switched back on.
"You should never underestimate any international team. It doesn't matter what the score was, because we definitely caught them on a bad day. It is still something that we are going to be wary of."
