Ipswich Town player charged by the FA

The FA have released a statement regarding Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy after their game against Accrington Stanley on Saturday which they won 2-1.

The statement reads: “Ipwswich Town FC’s Sam Morsy has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E1.1 following their EFL League One match against Accrington Stanley FC on Saturday [22/02/22].

“The midfielder’s behaviour during the 27th minute was not seen by the match officials, but it was caught on camera, and allegedly constitutes violent conduct.

“Sam Morsy has until tomorrow [25/01/22] to provide a response.”

Ninth place Ipswich hosted Accrington Stanley on Saturday who currently sit 13th in the league. It was the visitors who took the lead first with Ethan Hamilton scoring with a shot from outside the box into the bottom corner. However, Wes Burns got the hosts back in it equalising with a shot over the keeper. Conor Chaplin secured all three points for the Tractor Boys in the 65th minute with a strike into the top corner.

Whilst it isn’t known what the incident was or what caused it to occur, it took place just four minutes after Ipswich’s equaliser which raises questions of whether that had any part to play in the off the ball incident.

Ipswich Town have said they will ‘not be making any comment at this time’.

The Verdict:

It’s hard to comment on an off the ball incident without too much speculation but for the FA to have picked something up after the game that wasn’t caught by the officials suggests that the incident was worth looking into.

This isn’t the first time Morsy has struggled with discipline. After signing for Ipswich at the end of the summer transfer window earlier this season, the 30-year-old missed his first three games as a Town player due to a suspension
