Investigation launched after man shows up to A&E with gunshot wound

An investigation is underway after a man showed up to A&E with a gunshot wound on his leg.

Officers said the man - aged in his 30s - presented at hospital at around 12.15am this morning (Friday).The injury on his leg was 'believed to have been caused by a firearm', a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.

A cordon is now in place on Tennyson Road in Middleton while police work to find out where the suspected shooting happened. A small section of the residential street has been taped off.

Forensic investigators have been pictured at the scene this morning, as well as detectives.

One resident told the Manchester Evening News that he heard there was 'screaming' on the street at around 11.30am last night. Another said she was woken up by officers at around 1.30am this morning, who asked her if she had seen or heard anything.

The man remains in hospital with 'non life-threatening injuries'.

Police said there is 'not believed to be any wider threat to the community'.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 12.15am on Friday 11 March 2022, we received a report from hospital staff of a man in A&E with a leg injury believed to have been caused by a firearm. Enquiries are ongoing to ascertain where the incident occurred and a scene is currently in place on Tennyson Avenue, Middleton, while detectives establish the full circumstances.

"The man in his 30s remains in hospital. His injury is not believed to be life threatening.

"There is not believed to be any threat to the wider community. Anyone with information should contact police quoting log 36 of 11/03/22 via 0161 856 4591 or gmp.police.uk.
