LIVE: Main road closed off after serious crash with drivers told to avoid the area - latest updates

A main road in Heywood is closed off this morning after a serious crash.

York Street is shut where the road meets Rochdale Road East. The road is closed between the White Lion pub and Green Lane.

Accident investigation work is currently ongoing at the scene. The road has been shut since around 2am this morning (Monday).

Drivers have been urged to find a different route. In a tweet, Transport for Greater Manchester said: "Road Closure - A58 Rochdale Road East, Heywood closed between York Street and Green Lane. This is due to a road traffic collision.

"If you're heading this way, please seek an alternative route."
