'Interesting' - Manchester United fans make same David de Gea point as seven players released

Manchester United issued a contract update on David de Gea when they published their retained list on Friday.

De Gea has entered the final weeks of his contract and will become a free agent on June 30 as things stand, although talks over a new deal have been ongoing for some time. United did have the option to extend the Spaniard's contract for a further 12 months but do not want to maintain his £375,000-per-week wages.

MEN Sport understand the 32-year-old will sign a new deal on reduced terms, but a lack of progress on the surface, coupled with some high-profile errors, has led to speculation over his future at Old Trafford.

De Gea was not included in the club's list of retained players, which was sent to the Premier League on Friday, but there was confirmation that discussions remain open over a 'potential' new contract.

Despite confirmation of talks, as the current situation stands De Gea would leave the club when his contract ends on June 30 - a point that many fans were quick to highlight once the retained list was published.

United have been linked with several goalkeepers, and Erik ten Hag is thought to want more quality in that role regardless of De Gea's future. Inter Milan's Andre Onana is one target, having played with Ten Hag at Ajax, while there has also been reported interest in Porto's Diogo Costa and David Raya of Brentford.
