David de Gea problem could be a sign of things to come for four more Manchester United players

David De Gea posted a yawn emoji on social media on Wednesday afternoon.

Quite what the meaning was only the Spaniard will know but one thing that is for certain is the contract status and future of the Manchester United goalkeeper is getting tiresome. It’s a scenario so easily prevented that when you take a step back it’s staggering United haven’t done so.

They have an established experienced keeper, a four-time winner of the club's player of the year award, who is approaching the end of his deal. A reduced terms contract was reportedly offered, then adjusted late, and now here we are.

Erik ten Hag doesn't seem to have faith that the 32-year old can continue as first choice and talks have been ongoing for months. Now, with less than 48 hours remaining on his current contract, United have created a problem for themselves.

Dean Henderson seems destined for the exit door and behind him there are no internal candidates. Externally, the options come at a price.
