Inside the Rangers Women revolution as Hampden dressing room inquest helped flip script on Celtic and Glasgow City

Nicola Docherty has revealed a Hampden post-mortem has been the catalyst for Rangers' surge this season.

The full-back was part of the side who lost the league then the Scottish Cup within a week last season. Glasgow City nicked the championship at Ibrox in dramatic circumstances before Celtic claimed the Scottish Cup at Hampden at Rangers’ expense. There was a change of manager with Jo Potter taking over from Malky Thomson but the shift in mentality has been more notable this season.

Rangers have yet to lose a game as they head into the clash with Celtic at the Excelsior with a four-point cushion at the top of the table. “It did feel like a long summer,” said the Scotland international. "It was tough to take at the time. Disappointments can definitely spur you on for the next season and with the players we have now, we have kicked on in abundance.

“We have had some fantastic, big results this season so far against the likes of Celtic and Glasgow City. These were the big wins we just couldn’t seem to get last season. That is a massive difference and we are in a good place.

“We spoke together in the changing room at Hampden after the final about how disappointing the season had been. When you represent a club like Rangers you are expected to win things. But Jo came in, she brought in a lot of good players and we are in a good place right now.

“It has been massive for us this season. I have been in the league a long time and I have been used to winning things. It was really hurtful last season. Jo has been incredible and she brought in a style of play that immediately I felt really suited us. It is fast, attacking football that suits the players we have here. ”
