Ibrox latest news: Fresh Rangers transfer policy claim emerges involving Connor Goldson

Journalist Chris Jack believes Rangers’ transfer policy has to be focussed around players such as Connor Goldson who they can ‘improve’ and ‘mould’ throughout their stay.

The Gers have made huge improvements both on and off the pitch since returning to the Scottish Premiership in 2016/17 following a four-year absence.

Rangers claimed their first top-flight title in 10 years last season after they were relegated to the fourth-tier of Scottish football in 2012 due to their financial implosion.

Since then, former manager Steven Gerrard has departed the Glasgow giants for Aston Villa, leaving his successor Giovanni van Bronckhorst to try and carry on the good work he left behind.

Gerrard embarked on an ambitious transfer policy throughout his two-and-a-half-year stay at Ibrox, bringing in the likes of Ryan Kent, Kemar Roofe and Ianis Hagi in big-money moves.

And Rangers were rewarded for their investment after their ex-boss guided them to the Europa League knockout stages in both of his only two full seasons at the helm.

However, managing director Stewart Robertson previously admitted that the club has ‘four main pillars’ of income, including season ticket income, commercial revenues and European football.

The final revenue stream that Robertson outlined was ‘player trading’, claiming it was set to be a ‘key part’ of the Rangers’ business model.

Jack believes the reigning SPFL champions should look to bring in players who have room to grow, enticing them to the club with the promise of silverware and continental competition before selling them on.
