Ian Wright urges Antony patience from Manchester United with comparison to Liverpool FC star

Ian Wright has urged Manchester United to remain patient with Antony and likened his debut season to Liverpool's Darwin Nunez.

The Brazilian forward joined United for a big-money fee in the summer, signing from Ajax to work with Erik ten Hag once again. United have not seen an instant return on that investment with Antony proving a raw talent at times.

Against Wolves, his undoubted potential and room for growth was on display as he was central to several attacking moves. On some occasions, he got his decision-making wrong but did set up the crucial opening goal for Anthony Martial.

Wright believes that with good coaching and time, Antony will develop a more well-rounded game to match his undoubted ability. He believes the winger has shown flashes of quality, like Nunez, and will be more consistent in his second year in English football.

"I have got a lot of time for him," Wright said on Match of The Day. "I think he is the same as Darwin Nunez.

"It comes with the price tag, people expect so much from these players, we know they have ability but it's their first year. When you look at what this guy can do, you have to give him some time.

"He gets himself on the back post here and he should do better (with the header) but you think with time he will do better. It's an easy chance for him to take.

"This was an easy decision for him (assist), he gives it to Anthony Martial for a tap-in. He finds space and when you look at what he can offer, pace and skill, the way he skins players.

"Once he gets into the final third, you want the composure and calmness. He wants to have a shot and as time goes by, he won't waste these kinds of runs.
