Ian Wright and Alan Shearer agree with Brendan Rodgers on Leicester City summer transfer need

Match of the Day 2 pundits Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have said that Leicester City need "freshening up" in the summer transfer window, following defeat against Everton.

City have endured a difficult season in the Premier League, and defeat against the relegation-threatened Toffees leave Brendan Rodgers’ side in 14th position in the table. City do though have two games in hand over most of the teams around them.

The 2-1 loss against Everton came just three days after the disappointment of exiting the Europa Conference League at the semi-final stage. A corner was the undoing of City on that occasion and it was the same at the King Power Stadium on Saturday as Mason Holgate scored from Everton’s only corner kick of the game.

It’s a topic that has been covered numerous times by pundits, but Ian Wright says that there is ‘something missing’ in City’s performances in recent weeks. “I think you look at Liverpool, when he (Rodgers) was at Liverpool they were mid-table in respect to the amount of set-piece goals they gave away but It’s getting worse,” he said on Match of the Day 2.

“He’s tried man-to-man, he’s tried zonal but doesn’t seem to be able to get it going. He’s said in the post-match on the discussion that they have had. Of course, they’ve missed players this season, Ndidi, technical and aggression in the midfield, they miss that but there still seems to be a lack of urgency, a lack of creativity. There just seems to be something missing that they need to find.”

Rodgers has openly spoken about the need for a summer refresh when the transfer window opens, with City possibly bringing in five or six new players in the off-season. And Shearer believes that there is ‘no doubt’ that a squad refresh is needed in the summer.
