Ian Wright agrees with pundit on Man United win vs Everton as 'very fortunate' point made

Ian Wright and Ashley Williams agree that Everton executed their game plan well and were unfortunate not to get something out of the game against Manchester United.

United came away 2-0 winners at Old Trafford, bouncing back from their 3-1 defeat against rivals Manchester City last weekend. Both goals were scored from the spot by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford respectively as more misery was piled on to Everton who are now 11 games without a win.

"Everton came to Old Trafford today, they set up well from the start and I feel they thought they could get the win at Old Trafford," Williams said on Match of the Day. "We can see that from the first minute of the game, they were on the front foot, setting up the press.

"Beto goes, [Jack] Harrison backs him up, the midfielder locks on, goes back to the goalkeeper, [Abdoulaye] Doucoure is pressing, you can see how hard they're working out of possession and this was right at the start of the game. [Dwight] McNeil sniffs it out, forces an error with James Garner and McNeil drives into the space.

"There was five people trying to get on the end of McNeil's cross which doesn't happen in the end but they set their intent out. Then it changed a little bit, because they were so front footed, [James] Tarkowski is going into midfield, times a tackle against [Kobbie] Mainoo and makes a foul. [Alejandro] Garnacho makes a clever run and Tarkowski is so eager to win the ball, dangles out a leg which a bit of lazy defending and gives a penalty away.
