'Man was immense, gosh' - Everything 7 pundits said on Kobbie Mainoo after Man Utd vs Liverpool display

Kobbie Mainoo continues to go from strength to strength despite making his breakthrough in a chaotic and tumultuous Manchester United season. The 18-year-old had not featured in the league for United before this campaign, but has rapidly become a mainstay in Erik ten Hag's midfield, shining in the 4-3 FA Cup win over Liverpool on Sunday.

Mainoo exhibited his talent on numerous occasions before his 80th minute withdrawal at Old Trafford, resisting a fierce Liverpool press and controlling United's tempo from the crucial No.6 position. His performance left a succession of pundits wowed.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards was one of them. Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Richards said: “How good was Kobbie Mainoo? Oh my word. He just gets better and better and better.

“We analysed him when he first played for Man United and we talked about how calm he was on the ball but it’s not just that, he runs forward, he has great feet, his passing range looks good.

“I think they still have work to do on the tactical side of things in terms of protecting his back four a little bit but what a performance. He was amazing."

Responding on the same podcast, Gary Lineker said simply: “He’s such a talented young man, isn’t he?"

That came after former Arsenal striker Ian Wright – who has been a loud champion of Mainoo's abilities in recent weeks – doubled down on his belief that the teenager should have been included in the England squad.

Wright said: “How’s Kobbie Mainoo not in that squad? Come on, man. Come on. Man was immense today, gosh.”
