Ian Evatt explains why Bolton Wanderers are up there with the best in scoring late goals

Ian Evatt does not see it as a coincident why Bolton Wanderers are the best in League One at scoring late goals but believes it is down to attitude and wearing their opponents down.

Wanderers have scored 23 times in the final quarter of an hour in matches this campaign, which is the best in the third tier of English football this season.

The latest of these came over the weekend as MJ Williams popped up with a 90th minute leveller to salvage a point in the 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

Bolton went behind after the break when the Owls took the lead through Harlee Dean's header from Barry Bannan's corner came off the post and Jordan Storey was on hand to tap home.

But Bolton equalised before full-time when Aaron Morley's corner was only half cleared and MJ Williams fires home through a crowded penalty area to ensure Wanderers would get a share of the spoils.

Evatt feels the late heroics from his side is no coincidence as Wanderers make opponents pay eventually after wearing them out and getting their rewards and feels it has been there throughouth his reign as Bolton boss.

He said: “I think the trend started last year and I’ve seen stats where I think we’re the highest scorers in the last 15 minutes of games in English football, so I don’t think it's a coincidence. I think it’s down to attitude.

"I think it’s down to confidence of scoring, but also we ask teams questions and we wear teams out. I think that was not necessarily the case today but it has been in previous games where teams can’t defend or press the ball for 90 minutes and when they switch off and make mistakes, because they’re fatigued then
