‘I would like to be here for more years’ – David de Gea wants new Manchester United deal after Everton win

David de Gea has stated that he wants to extend his stay at Manchester United with his contract up at the end of the season.

The goalkeeper moved to Old Trafford in 2011 and has gone onto become one of United’s longest serving players of all-time, winning their last Premier League title in 2013 and claiming the club’s Player of the Year award a joint-record four times.

He has come under fire in recent seasons however, especially for his lack of ability on the ball, with the modern goalkeeper expected to play out from the back and be comfortable in possession.

With Erik ten Hag looking to implement a more possession-based style of play at United, De Gea has been tipped to be replaced especially with the Spaniard now in the last year of his contract, though the Red Devils do have the option to extend his deal by another 12 months.

However, De Gea currently has no plans to leave Manchester and after United’s 2-1 win at Everton on Sunday night, he expressed his desire to agree new terms with the club he has called home for over 11 years.

‘We controlled the game until maybe the last 10 minutes,’ the 31-year-old told BT Sport.

‘It was massive for our confidence, we have to look forward to the next games. It’s an honour to be here, it’s a privilege.

‘It was great to be in goal today, with the team fighting for three points. I’m just very focused on the games helping the team as much as I can.

‘Of course, I would like to be here for more years, so let’s see what happens in the future. I’m really, really happy here.’

De Gea also heaped praise on teammate Cristiano Ronaldo who scored the winning goal just before half-time.
