David de Gea identifies what Casemiro has added to Manchester United squad

Goalkeeper David de Gea hailed the experience that Casemiro has brought to Manchester United following his first Premier League start for the club.

The midfielder was awarded his first league start for United in Sunday evening's 2-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park. He was preferred in the holding-midfield role to Scott McTominay, joining forces with Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

The Brazilian retained his place after being handed just his second start in United colours in Thursday evening's 3-2 win over Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League. His performance on Merseyside featured good and bad moments, as he was guilty of giving the ball away in the build-up to Alex Iwobi's opener, but provided the assist for Cristiano Ronaldo's winner just before half-time.

Casemiro has been forced to play a patient game since arriving at Old Trafford, much to the surprise of many United supporters. However, although his performance against Everton featured one or two iffy moments, it was a showing that offered plenty of encouragement moving forward.

And for De Gea Casemiro's impact on the squad should not be underestimated. De Gea, speaking to BT Sport, said: "He has brought massive experience. He has won everything. He is very calm on the pitch and I think you saw today, even after the mistake for the goal, he won the ball all the time. He helped the team and recovered the ball a lot. The experience he has is massive. He helps the team a lot."
