"I've been told...": Journo drops Spurs transfer claim that'll leave supporters gutted - opinion

A claim has emerged on Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of landing Josko Gvardiol in the summer transfer window…

Bundesliga reporter Stefan Bienkowski has revealed that RB Leipzig will not be cashing in on the Croatian international this summer.

The journalist has confirmed that both Spurs and Chelsea have made moves to scope out the possibility of a deal but have been met with a firm response from the German outfit.

He tweeted: “Some Transfermarkt news for Chelsea and Tottenham fans: I’ve been told that BOTH clubs have contacted RB Leipzig about Josko Gvardiol but have been told, unequivocally, that the defender is not for sale. The 20-year-old has a contract with the club until 2026.”

This claim will leave the supporters gutted as it means that they will not be seeing Gvardiol in action for Spurs in the Premier League next season.

In the Bundesliga last term, the 20-year-old showcased his quality as he averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.10 across 29 appearances. He made 3.4 tackles and interceptions per game as he showed that he can perform consistently, to a high level, despite his age.

Germania Sport assistant editor Izak Ante Sucic once hailed the gem’s talents, saying: “Since he was a child, he’s been built like a tank. He can go forward, he can jump, he can tackle – he can do everything you want.”

This comment suggests that he has all the attributes required to make it at the top of the game. Sucic believes that he has a strong physique and this would help him in the English top-flight as it suggests that he would be able to deal with physical forwards, like Michail Antonio and Erling Haaland.

In fact, Gvardiol played against the soon-to-be Manchester City forward when he played against Borussia Dortmund in April.
