“I understand the logic behind this one” – Burnley pondering Anderlecht reunion for Vincent Kompany: The verdict

The Anderlecht midfielder played under Clarets’ boss Vincent Kompany in Belgium and was an important member of the 36-year old’s team.

Here we ask our FLW writers their verdict on if the 26-year old would be a good addition to the Championship team… 

I understand the logic behind this one, whilst it is also one that could reap lots of rewards for Burnley.

An excellent technician, who has impressed at Championship level before, Cullen’s ability to also read the game presents him as an excellent option for Burnley to consider. 

Knowing the new Burnley boss during their time together at Anderlecht, Cullen’s ever-presence in Vincent Kompany’s teams show that there is a level of trust already. 

Burnley will be looking to mount a promotion push this season, so any move for the 26-year-old needs to be with the thought of ‘will they cut it in the Premier League?’, especially if it is a sizable contract that could be in the pipelines. 

I think Cullen is an excellent player, but I would have my reservations about offering him a lengthy contract. 

This would be a good signing for Burnley and if he was willing to bring him back, it suggests he’s a player that Vincent Kompany trusts which is what you want in your side.

Although he wasn’t able to bag any goals last season, Cullen has proven to be a solid player in the middle of the park throughout his career so far, reflected by his involvement with his national side Republic of Ireland.

The 26-year-old is a strong player and would no doubt help the manager in implementing his methods and style of football at the club as they have worked together before.
