I spotted Man City trial a new tactic in training with under-fire player given position change

The main attraction at Manchester City training on Monday was not a City player at all.

Brazil legend Kaka was among those watching City train in Orlando, having ended his career in Florida. A group of fans were uninterested in the likes of Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish training directly in front of them, and only interested in getting Kaka to notice them.

He retired in 2017 but is still a star attraction here seven years on. Kaka and Pep Guardiola held a long conversation before the City boss eventually walked out to oversee training. Kaka joins Joe Mazzulla, Andre Agassi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the list of sporting legends who have spent time with Guardiola on tour this summer.

Guardiola had just spoken to a packed media theatre ahead of the Barcelona game - taking as many questions in Spanish and Catalan as in English. He offered a stern assessment of Julian Alvarez's comments that the striker wants to play more important games and that he has to think about his future.

The manager's message: fine, think about it. When he has thought about it, let us know. The unspoken message was that he wasn't particularly happy at having heard the comments which seem to have been misinterpreted.

There was backing for Jack Grealish too, who had just spoken for the first time about his omission from the England squad this summer. He said he was heartbroken at the snub, that he struggled to get over it, and alluded to off-field problems that were simmering in the background last season.
