‘I miss it’ says ex-Huddersfield Town striker Yaya Sanogo as he opens up on football hiatus
Yaya Sanogo claims to have received three offers from Scotland as he prepares to make a long-awaited return to football. In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, the 29-year-old has opened up about a difficult year following his exit from Huddersfield Town.
Last year, the Terriers took a punt on the former Arsenal man to save their season as the club hurtled towards League One. However, after just nine appearances and no goals, the striker was not offered a new contract.
Twelve months on, Carlos Corberan's side remain the last team the Frenchman represented after spending one year in the free-agent wilderness. Struggling to score in the Championship is a far cry from what was expected from Sanogo when he arrived in England.
Arsene Wenger brought the then youngster to North London after he bagged four goals as France won the U20 World Cup for the first time. Like many prospects before him, however, he failed to realise his potential in the senior ranks.
Sanogo - who has been training with former club Toulouse - revealed he is desperate to find a club amid reported interest from Scotland.
"The worst moment is Saturday and you can't play,” he said. “You can't be competitive, that's the hard bit.
"There's frustration. The pressure and the adrenaline of the weekend - I miss it, I miss the pitch. I train there (Toulouse) during the week. The weekly plan is the same as having a club, I'm there every morning and there are two sessions a day - but I don't play on the matchday.
"There's no income either. It's hard when you've got nothing coming in, in terms of money. I'm fine on that front, thanks to God. The hardest bit is getting yourself back into competition.
"I hope to find a club quickly, that would make me happy," he
