‘I’m a true fan’ - Julia Roberts opens up about love for Manchester United

Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts has reconfirmed her love for Manchester United on the Graham Norton Show.

The US actress is one of the club’s most well-known international supporters, has visited Old Trafford and was present at United’s pre-season tour earlier this year. Roberts was part of the 82,000-strong crowd which watched Erik ten Hag’s side beat Arsenal 2-0 at the MetLife Stadium in New York.

The 56-year-old told United’s media channel about how she started supporting the club after the Arsenal win. She said: “We’re so excited. They’re such a part of our family’s history as avid sports lovers and now the kids are all grown up, they were tiny when we first met everybody, so it will be great to see some people that we know and to meet some of the new players.”

Roberts has again opened up about her love for United on a UK chat show. The Notting Hill actress, who won an Oscar in 2000 for playing the titular character in Erin Brockovich was speaking while promoting her new film Leave The World Behind.

A chance situation saw Roberts’ children become football fans - and her love with United was born. She told the Graham Norton Show last night: “I've been to Old Trafford, I'm a true fan. I have three children and when they were really little and started playing soccer and started watching it on TV.

“And I didn't even realise how exciting it was to watch it on television. We just got so into it and somehow Manchester United just became our team, the Moder family team. And we became sort of possessed.”
