'I know...' - Journalist expects Celtic bid for in-demand 14 G/A gem with 'pace and power'
Pete O’Rourke is ‘sure’ that Celtic are eyeing Antoine Semenyo but believes that Premier League clubs are also keen on the Bristol City forward.
The 22-year-old predominantly plays as a striker but has also operated as a left and right winger during his career.
He is valued at just under £1.1m by Transfermarkt and has less than 18 months left on his contract with the English Championship outfit.
Celtic’s two natural senior centre-forwards – Giorgos Giakoumakis and Albian Ajeti – have only managed eight goals between them so far this season, and three of those came via the Greek’s hat-trick against Dundee yesterday.
O’Rourke has been told that plenty of clubs, including Celtic, are in the running to sign Semenyo, adding that it no surprise that the Englishman is attracting so much interest.
The journalist revealed to GiveMeSport: “I’m sure Celtic and I know a number of English clubs are also keeping an eye on Semenyo as well.
“I think [Nottingham] Forest tried to sign him in the January transfer window, along with several other clubs. I’m sure Premier League clubs are maybe looking at him because he is a top young player.”
Semenyo is enjoying a hugely impressive campaign at Ashton Gate. Strikingly, he has registered more goal involvements – 14 (six goals, eight assists) – than he has Championship starts (13).
Robins manager Nigel Pearson has described him as ‘very difficult to play against’ because of the combination of ‘pace and power’ he possesses. Beyond that, WhoScored also list his defensive contribution as a standout strength, with freelance journalist Chris Stonadge dubbing him ‘a real presser’.
If Celtic beat off the competition for the 22-year-old’s signature, Hoops supporters ought to be excited.
