Ange can finally fix big Lennon blunder as Celtic now hold talks for 'dangerous' star – opinion

The Hoops appear to be making plans ahead of Postecoglou’s second season in charge, with rumours gathering pace regarding Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo.

Celtic sent senior scout Craig Strachan to watch the forward in action against Reading last month, with the player’s agent, Tony Finnigan, now confirming he has had a conversation with Strachan regarding the 22-year-old.

Transfer insider Dean Jones previously claimed it would cost any club around £15m for the striker, labelled as ‘dangerous’ last month, with his Robins deal set to expire in 2023.

Cast your mind back to the summer of 2020, when Neil Lennon was on the hunt for a new striker at Parkhead. The Hoops were heavily linked with Ivan Toney, then at Peterborough, after he scored 24 goals in 32 League One games.

Stephen McGowan even claimed that Toney was in the building at Celtic Park and wanted to sign, however, Lennon ended up going for Albian Ajeti from West Ham instead.

Toney has gone on to star after eventually signing for Brentford, helping them into the Premier League and scoring 41 goals in 78 appearances for the Bees.

As we know, a £4.5m move for Ajeti hasn’t exactly worked out, with the 25-year-old scoring just nine times in 48 appearances and making just three league starts under Postecoglou. Frank McAvennie has even recently stated that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Swiss striker has played his last game for the club.

On that basis, should the club end up moving Ajeti on in the summer, they could be on the search for a replacement, with Semenyo possibly that man.
